What God has to say about Women in Ministry
Today's post will be rather controversial, however, I believe it will prove by the scriptures, that God has ordained Women in the ministry. A note before you read...this is not an attack on men, nor their place as leaders in the body of Christ. But for too long, women have been told that we are "out of order if we preach", due to 1 Timothy 2:12 Today, I believe that the Holy Spirit will confirm the Word that many have been in error from this way of thinking. We all know what 1 Tim. 2:12 states, but have we read Psalm 68:11? It declares, "The Lord gives the command; The women who proclaim the good tidings are a great host:" Yes, you read it correctly...The WOMEN who PREACHED are a great number! Now this would seem to conflict with what Paul states in 1 Timothy. But we must remember that we must "rightly divide the Word." We must look at the context in which Paul was writing. Apparently the women were out of order in the church and were interrupting Paul's message. They were young in their spiritual walk and needed to learn to respect the Lord's word when being preached, not speak out of turn. This pointed out one specific instant, not "all women" as a whole. If so, why would Paul pen these words in Phil. 4:3, "...to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News". Yes, WOMEN helped Paul preach the gospel! They worked beside him helping to tell the Good News! If Paul had a problem with ALL WOMEN preaching and wanted them to be silent, why did he allow them to preach along side of him? This is precisely why we must not believe TRADITIONS of men, but the WORD of God. Too many Christians just believe traditions that have been handed down for generations, instead of searching the Word to see what the Holy Spirit would say. We must see the "balance" of the Word, not go to extremes in tradition. One more example...1 Tim. 2:9 "Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not by braiding their hair or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes." Does this verse mean that if we braid our hair or wear gold jewelry (which includes most wedding rings), or pearl earrings or even an expensive dress that we are indecent by God's standard? If so, I guess that would include the entire population of women! Once again, we must take the Word in context. In Paul's day, the women were excessive in dress. They were more interested in promoting the flesh than the spirit. Paul's warning came to them because he wanted to emphasize that true beauty isn't outward. True beauty is the "life of the Spirit" inside! To be modest is to not "promote" the flesh. That was his message. His message hasn't changed today. We are still to present ourselves as Christian women in a "modest" way. But it is in relation to the context, just as "women keeping quiet in the church" is in relation to the context. 1 Cor. 11:5, "And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head..." It is obvious that the women were praying and prophesying here as we see it CLEARLY written. If they were to be silent, why are they prophesying? Once again, we must realize that the word of God does not conflict, it confirms! My dear brothers and sisters...if God used a whale to get a message to Jonah and a donkey to speak to Balaam, would not God desire to use the "woman", who was created from the rib of man? He created them both with a "voice". Both were created to proclaim His gospel to the world. He died for both, He intercedes for both, He is returning for both. If this isn't enough to prove the point, I leave you with this last thought. The first woman (Eve), gave the wrong message to the man (Adam) in a garden (garden of Eden). 4000 years later, we find another scene taking place in a garden. Jesus has just resurrected and is about to ascend to Heaven, but He makes a special visitation before His ascension to a "woman" in a garden. And here is His command to Mary, "...GO AND TELL my brethren..." This woman gave the right message to the men! She was told by the Lord Himself, GO AND TELL! And the Lord is still saying the same thing to the women of today, "GO AND TELL the Gospel of Good News to the World!" AMEN AND AMEN!
